Disrupting the Status Quo: Using -Ships to Assist Student Navigation of STEM Pathways

This article invokes a maritime call to educators and STEM community members, communicating the urgent need for metaphorical waterways as pathways young people navigate various -ships (apprenticeships, internships, mentorship, partnerships) improve access future careers in STEM. We on all education members embrace concept of inclusive accessible rather than restrictive pipeline mindset designing education, apprenticeship programs. Educators, researchers, policymakers, partners can embed experiential learning opportunities inside outside classroom through career exploration apprenticeships internships. The authors offer recommendations school, industry, organizational partnerships maximize student success further prepare them careers. Educators collectively leverage resources designed students align curriculum with high-demand skills long-term job-producing trajectories. Advancing policies explore mutually beneficial culturally relevant ways current acts tributary that feeds into larger river.
